Byron Bay

It’s been some 35 years since I last visited this iconic town located in the most eastern part of Australia. At that time it was pristine and now it looks a lot less than that. While nature dealt it a great hand with beaches and landscape, the people living in the town seem to be oblivious to just how tourists vs infrastructure are a complete mismatch. The roads are now all goat tracks and it looks very much like a town left to deteriorate without any planning for growth. However I was amused by the council literally putting parking meters everywhere including the beaches without anything to show for it. They have lived off a reputation that cashes in on an endless supply of millennials due to music and arts community festivals without too much thought on anything other than that. I’m sure the locals would say otherwise but to an outsider it looks like a tired old town that lost it’s way.

Call of the wild

Here are some of the local wild life caught around my treks through National parks around the Sunshine coast area. The Koala’s get an easy life with 16-18 hours sleep a day so when you do spot them it’s usually up a tree doing exactly that. Then there is the Kookaburra which are a unique bird to Australia and they have a very distinct call which resembles sometimes like a human laughing. Its a sound all Australian’s who live near the bush are very familiar with early morning and evening.

Noosa National Park

Noosa has some nice beaches and a great National park on the headland to walk around. It’s such nice scenery you can easily forget the walk all together. The paths are well maintained and most of it is well shaded due to the tropical climate. I particularly like the way the ocean reflects a nice shade of blue and it’s a favourite play ground for winter escapes from the south and international tourists.

Brunswick Heads

This was a annual family holiday place in my teens that involved a long road trip not unlike the “Griswolds” vacation treks. But pleasant memories and long days at the beach the town has not changed much at all. It is as if time has stood still, the only thing missing was the juke box in the milk bar.

Gosford Classic Car Museum

This Classic Car Museum is something else, it has all the boys toys anyone could dream of. What’s even better they are all under one roof, for any car enthusiast it’s a must see. Especially for those rare cars that most of us would not likely see in our lifetime. Plus a huge collection of classic cars from almost every vintage. A special favourite of mine is a restored sixties “James Bond” style model Aston Martin DB5

Calexico

Saw this group at Enlighten too, they are good. As I already had a couple of their Albums I was keen to see how they would sound live and I wasn’t disappointed. I particularly like this song.

Enlighten 2016 Canberra

Took these pics at the Enlighten Festival in Canberra. Please excuse the lack of sharpness as I took them without a tripod with most being a 2 second exposure. So I had to hold the camera as steady as I could by hand without any props near by.

Avoca Beach NSW

Recent trip to the Central coast of NSW and the pleasant surroundings of Avoca Beach.
Liked it so much, plan to visit again in the winter & try out a few bowling greens.
Along with the additional bonus of having family connections in the area.

Floriade 2015

A few pics from this year’s Floriade in my city which is always spectacular. Not half as spectacular as the political events here last week with a change of Prime Minister. I posted almost 2 years ago when he was elected that in 12 mths time the Australian people might think “what have we done!” well it took a little longer than that but the result was the same. His own political party did what the Australian public wanted all along, put a 21st century man in charge instead of one two centuries behind. He may have been seen as man of conviction in conservative circles but personally I think he made the likes of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz look clever.

Comin’ Back to me

This was a song I came across the other day going through my collection and it seemed like years since I heard it. A great ballad by Jefferson Airplane that was written many years ago. But sounds like poetry put to music, I never get tired of this song, even thou a lot of artists have tried to cover it nothing comes close to the original. It can take you places or make you just want to sit back and listen.
